I typically spend hours researching the perfect hotel for every place we visit – one that reflects the spirit of the local area, at a reasonable price point. I read every Tripadvisor review and view every photo to try to get a realistic sense of the experience from like-minded travelers. For me, that research and planning is part of the excitement of travel. And accommodations are not just a place to rest our heads at the end of a long day. It influences the entire vibe of the trip, and can literally make or break a particular vacation. We reminisce about some of our most memorable hotels for years after we’ve checked out of our room.
So when Mike said that he already had a hotel chosen for our visit to Zion National Park (part of our 5 day trip through Utah and Arizona), AND that it was the hotel that he had stayed at for his brother’s bachelor party, I was hesitant to say the least. Whatever it was, this bachelor motel couldn’t possibly be the romantic, cozy mountain lodge that I was looking for.
Luckily, I was totally wrong, and of course I should have trusted Mike. The Majestic View Lodge is the perfect place to come home to after a long day hiking. It lives up to its name with majestic views and beautiful wooden furniture.
Bring your bathing suit and enjoy those beautiful views from the hot tub. If you’re lucky like we were, you’ll have it all to yourself on a cold November evening.
And make sure you ask the front desk what time the sun rises! Brew a pre-dawn cup of coffee in your room and take in the show from your private balcony. Maybe it was the mountain air or the red canyon walls, but that fiery sky was unlike anything I have ever seen.
